As temperatures continue to rise in South Texas, it’s important to take extra precautions to keep little ones safe in the heat. Children can become dehydrated and overheat more quickly than adults.
Here are a few simple tips to help keep your family safe this summer:
Encourage frequent water breaks, even if your child says they aren’t thirsty
Dress children in lightweight clothing and use hats when outdoors
Plan outdoor play earlier in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower
Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, even for a moment
Watch for signs of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, or unusual fussiness in younger children
Let’s keep our little adventurers safe, hydrated, and enjoying summer!
